Arboretum Modernization Plan

For Release:  July 29, 2024

A Mt. Washington Arboretum modernization plan is expected to be ready for consideration by the Mt. Washington Preservation Trust (MWPT) this month. MWPT Inc. President Tarah Ranke said this week that a decision on a licensed landscape architect proposal is planned in a week or less for the public facility located at Lochlea and Kelly Avenue along Western Run stream.

The arboretum established more than 25 years ago is maintained by Mt. Washington Preservation Trust volunteers and through charitable contributions to the Trust, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization, for the benefit of the general public and the residents of Mt. Washington.

An arboretum modernization master plan was requested this summer through a grant from the Pimlico Community Development Authority, Baltimore Department of Planning and Recreation and the Department of Parks, in addition to Mayor Brandon Scott.

Miss Ranke said that following the landscape architect plan selection, the modernization proposal will be presented to the community at large for approval. Miss Ranke said the date of that presentation will be announced in the coming weeks.
