Welcome to the Arboretum

The Mount Washington Arboretum provides a space for the community to experience nature in many forms (environmental, educational, and recreational).

In 1979 a hurricane destroyed an apartment complex on this site. The Arboretum was founded in 1999 by the Mount Washington Preservation Trust, with the support of the Mount Washington Improvement Association. The vision, energy, hard work, and dedication of these community volunteers have transformed this city acre into a living museum of trees, shrubs, and flowers.

The Arboretum is intended to be a showcase for native plants, an example of sound ecological principles, and a sanctuary from the modern world. It includes a variety of features that make it a unique place to experience, learn, rest, and reflect. Please enjoy and respect it.

The Arboretum is managed and maintained by the Mount Washington Preservation Trust, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
